Terms of Use
These terms apply to all software and hardware published by Ennes Labs — including Forenzi, PageMage, AmoebaQuest, CelestialQuest, Ember Deck, Lotto Picker RNG, Photon Quest, and anything we publish in future. How our products handle your information is covered separately in the Ennes Labs Privacy Policy and in each product's own policy.
Short version
Our software is yours to use. We make no promises that it is free of defects or that it will find everything it looks for, and our liability to you is limited. The security tools in particular can only find what researchers have already documented — a clean result is not proof that a device is clean, and no scanner should be the only thing standing between you and someone who means you harm. Nothing here takes away rights your local consumer law gives you.
Using our software
When you install an Ennes Labs application, you get a personal, worldwide, non-exclusive licence to use it on devices you control, for as long as you like. Paid applications are a one-time purchase and the copy you bought keeps working; free applications are free, with no advertising and nothing to buy later.
What we ask in return is narrow. Don't redistribute our applications as your own, don't remove or obscure attribution and licensing notices, and don't use our software to break the law or to harm someone.
That last point deserves specifics in the case of Forenzi. It is built to help a person examine their own device. Using it to inspect someone else's phone without their knowledge is the behaviour it was written to expose, and it is a misuse of the tool regardless of what the law in your jurisdiction permits.
What belongs to you
Everything our software produces on your device belongs to you: your extractions, your saved sets, your game progress, your scan results and your evidence reports. We claim no rights over any of it, and in most cases we could not reach it if we wanted to — it is stored on your device and nothing is transmitted to us.
No warranty
Plainly: we build carefully and we test, but software has defects, and we cannot promise that ours will work perfectly, work on every device, or keep working as operating systems change. If you need a guarantee, we cannot give you one.
In the formal language this clause is expected to use: ENNES LABS SOFTWARE AND HARDWARE ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE", WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ACCURACY, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT ANY PRODUCT WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR FREE OF HARMFUL COMPONENTS, OR THAT DEFECTS WILL BE CORRECTED.
Security tools: what detection can and cannot do
This section applies to Forenzi and to any future Ennes Labs product that detects threats. It is the most important part of this document, and it says the same thing the application itself says on screen.
Detection is bounded by published research. Forenzi compares what is on your device against indicators that security researchers have published openly. It cannot find spyware that nobody has documented yet, it cannot inspect encrypted network traffic, and it cannot see inside another application's private data — Android permits no application to do those things.
A clean result is not proof. It means nothing known matched. It does not mean your device is clean, and it must not be treated as an all-clear. Software that is renamed, rebuilt, or newly written will not match a published fingerprint.
It is not a substitute for a person. If you have specific reason to believe you are being targeted — as a journalist, an activist, or someone in an unsafe relationship — please talk to someone who does this work. The Coalition Against Stalkerware keeps a directory of advocates at stopstalkerware.org, and Access Now runs a Digital Security Helpline at accessnow.org/help. No application, ours included, should be the only thing you rely on.
Acting on a finding is your decision, and it can carry risk. Monitoring software is usually installed by someone with physical access, often a partner or family member. Removing it can tell that person you found it, and that can escalate the danger to you. Forenzi says so before it suggests removing anything. We cannot assess your situation, and we do not advise you on it; the decision and its consequences are yours.
We make no guarantee of detection or removal. Forenzi cannot remove anything by itself in any case — every uninstall goes through Android's own confirmation dialog, which only you can approve.
We say all of this in the application, in the store listing, and here, because a security tool that implies more certainty than it has is worse than no tool at all.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Ennes Labs is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data, loss of goodwill, business interruption, or the cost of substitute products — arising out of or related to your use of, or inability to use, any Ennes Labs product, whether the claim is brought in contract, tort (including negligence), strict liability or otherwise, and whether or not we were advised that such damages were possible.
Our total aggregate liability for all claims relating to a product is limited to the amount you paid Ennes Labs for that product in the twelve months before the claim arose, or twenty-five US dollars, whichever is greater. Forenzi is free, so for Forenzi this is twenty-five US dollars.
These limits are a real part of the bargain: our software is free or inexpensive, carries no advertising, collects nothing about you and funds no support organisation, and we could not offer it on those terms while accepting unlimited liability for how it is used.
Rights these terms do not take away
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties, or the limitation of liability for death or personal injury, fraud, gross negligence, or wilful misconduct. Where that is the case, the exclusions and limits above apply only to the extent the law permits, and the rest of this document still stands.
If you are a consumer in the European Union, the United Kingdom, Australia, or anywhere else with statutory consumer guarantees that cannot be waived by agreement, those guarantees apply to you and they prevail over anything in this document that conflicts with them. Nothing here is intended to reduce them, and we would not want it to.
Open-source and third-party components
Our products include software and data published by other people under open-source licences. Those components remain governed by their own licences, not by this document, and each product names them — with the licence and the copyright holder — inside the application.
Forenzi's threat indicators are published by the Amnesty International Security Lab (CC BY 2.0), ECHAP (CC BY 4.0), the Mobile Verification Toolkit project (MIT, Copyright © 2022 MVT) and the Cornell Tech / NYU Clinic to End Tech Abuse (ISDi, MIT, Copyright © 2018 Cornell University). Forenzi is an independent application and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or supported by any of them.
Other companies' names and products
Forenzi reports the name of the software family an indicator was published under, because telling you that "something matched" without saying what would be useless. Those names belong to their respective owners and are used only to identify what was found, as published by the researchers cited above. Naming a product is not a statement by Ennes Labs about that company, and nothing in Forenzi's output should be read as one.
Some applications are classified as dual-use — family locators, parental controls and anti-theft tools that can be used legitimately or abusively depending on who set them up. Forenzi labels these as exactly that, and does not describe them as spyware.
Changes, and products ending
We may update our applications, change how a feature works, or stop maintaining a product. If a product is discontinued, the copy you already have keeps working — nothing we ship phones home to a licensing server, so none of it stops functioning because we stopped maintaining it. We make no commitment to continue publishing updates indefinitely.
We may revise these terms. The revision date at the top always reflects the current version, and a material change will be noted in the release notes of the affected product.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Washington, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. If you are a consumer resident elsewhere, this does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory law of the place where you live, and you may bring proceedings in your local courts where your law gives you that right.
