CelestialQuest — Privacy Policy
CelestialQuest is published by Ennes Labs. This privacy policy describes how the CelestialQuest Android application handles information. It is a supplement to the Ennes Labs general privacy policy, which covers the principles behind every product we ship.
Short version
CelestialQuest does not collect, transmit, or share any information about you. It has no network access, no analytics, no advertising, no third-party SDKs, and requests no runtime permissions. Everything happens on your device.
What CelestialQuest does and does not do
What CelestialQuest does:
- Saves your mission state locally on your device using Android's standard app-private storage — ship position, heading, destination, flight controls, mission clocks, and mission log.
- Generates all cockpit audio procedurally at runtime. The application contains no audio files and plays no recorded sound.
- Reads its bundled star catalogs and astronomical imagery from within the installed application package.
- Reads and writes only within its own private sandbox, which no other app can access.
What CelestialQuest does not do:
- Access the internet. CelestialQuest opens no network connections of any kind.
- Use analytics, telemetry, crash reporting, or advertising SDKs.
- Require an account, sign-in, user profile, or cloud sync.
- Display advertisements.
- Offer in-app purchases.
- Access your photos, contacts, location, microphone, camera, or any other personal data.
- Integrate any third-party services or SDKs.
- Phone home to verify your purchase or check for licensing. Once installed, it runs offline forever.
Information CelestialQuest stores locally
To do its job, CelestialQuest saves the following on your device only, using SharedPreferences. None of this leaves your device:
- Mission state — your ship's position, velocity, heading, selected destination, propulsion mode, throttle and warp settings, and the current astronomical date. This is what allows a journey to continue while the application is closed.
- Mission clocks — elapsed ship proper time, elapsed Earth-reference time, and elapsed coordinate time.
- Mission log — the record of destinations you have reached and physics milestones you have passed.
All of this data describes a simulated spacecraft, not you. It is stored in the application's private sandbox and is not accessible to other applications. Uninstalling CelestialQuest removes all of it immediately.
If you have Android's built-in backup enabled, your mission state may be included in your device's own backup so that an in-progress journey survives a device transfer. That backup is handled entirely by Android and your chosen backup provider under their terms; Ennes Labs neither receives nor has access to it.
Network access
CelestialQuest does not request the INTERNET permission and opens no network connections. Every star position, planetary texture, and astronomical photograph is bundled inside the application at build time. There is no Ennes Labs server involved in CelestialQuest's operation, because the app never contacts one.
Permissions
CelestialQuest requests no runtime permissions. It does not access your contacts, camera, microphone, location, calendar, SMS, call history, storage outside its own sandbox, or any other sensitive permission.
Astronomical data and imagery
CelestialQuest displays real astronomical data and real telescope photographs. All of it is bundled with the application and none of it is retrieved over a network. We are glad to credit the scientists and institutions whose work makes this possible.
- Star positions — derived from the HYG database, itself compiled from the Hipparcos, Yale Bright Star, and Gliese catalogs, with distances and photometry from those sources and from ESA's Gaia mission.
- Planetary and lunar surface maps — produced by NASA and its mission teams, including imagery from the Voyager, Galileo, Cassini, Messenger, Magellan, New Horizons, Dawn, and Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter missions.
- Orbital elements — NASA/JPL published J2000 elements and rates for the major planets, and standard mean orbital elements for moons and small bodies.
- Deep-sky photographs — releases from the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope, the NASA/ESA/CSA James Webb Space Telescope, the Chandra X-ray Observatory, the Spitzer Space Telescope, the European Southern Observatory, and NOIRLab/NSF/AURA.
NASA-produced imagery is generally in the public domain. Imagery from ESA/Hubble, ESA/Webb, ESO, and NOIRLab is published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International licence (CC BY 4.0), which permits use, including commercial use, provided the creators are credited.
CelestialQuest satisfies that condition inside the application: every deep-sky photograph carries its original credit line, and that credit is displayed on the object's information card when you view it in flight. A complete list of image credits ships with the application and is also available on request from info@enneslabs.com.
The inclusion of this material does not imply that NASA, ESA, CSA, ESO, NOIRLab, or any affiliated institution endorses CelestialQuest or Ennes Labs.
Scientific accuracy
CelestialQuest models real physics where it can and says so plainly where it cannot. Special-relativistic motion, time dilation, and orbital mechanics are computed from measured constants. The warp drive is explicitly labelled as speculative. The application's in-flight science panel describes exactly which parts are established physics, which are approximations, and which are game mechanics. We mention this in a privacy policy only because honesty about what a product is doing is the same commitment that underlies everything else on this page.
Ownership, updates, and support
CelestialQuest follows Ennes Labs' customer-ownership commitments:
- You buy CelestialQuest once. There are no subscriptions, recurring charges, or in-app purchases.
- Every future update and bug fix is included — free, for as long as Ennes Labs maintains the application.
- Support questions can be sent to info@enneslabs.com at any point in the application's lifetime.
- The application doesn't contact a licensing server to verify your purchase. Once installed, it runs offline indefinitely.
Children's privacy
CelestialQuest is suitable for all ages, including children under 13. Because CelestialQuest collects no personal information of any kind, does not connect to the internet, does not use advertising, does not enable communication between users, and requires no account or sign-in, it complies with the United States Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), the European Union General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) as applied to minors (sometimes called GDPR-K), and equivalent children's privacy protections worldwide.
Specifically, CelestialQuest does not:
- Collect any personal information from users of any age.
- Enable communication between users, or between users and third parties.
- Serve advertising of any kind, including behavioral or contextual.
- Use third-party analytics, tracking, attribution, or advertising SDKs.
- Share any information with any third party, because there is no information to share.
- Offer in-app purchases, subscriptions, or any transactions after install.
- Ask for any information from the player — no name, no email, no age, no anything.
Because CelestialQuest neither collects nor transmits information about anyone, it also does not knowingly or unknowingly collect information from children under 13. There is no data pipeline through which such information could travel.

Changes to this policy
If we ever change how CelestialQuest handles information, this policy will be updated and the change will be announced in the app's Play Store release notes. Any change that would result in new data collection would require an update that you choose to install; existing installed versions of CelestialQuest would continue to behave exactly as this policy describes.
